Accomplished

Accomplished

For a while, I was afraid that I would never actually complete this book. My first book.

Now, after many years of starts and stops, ups and downs, months of procrastination, I can finally say that I finished something. With a final word count of just over 70,000, my first novel is complete.

I can’t describe the feeling of accomplishment that washed over me as I wrote those final words. It was surreal.

It was the 17th of June 2015 at 11:30pm, which had started out as just an ordinary day but which I knew would be the day that my life would change forever. It would be the day I could genuinely call myself a novelist because I wrote a complete novel.

It is still to be determined whether the book itself is any good but at least I can relish this feeling and savor the experience of having overcome this significant milestone in my life. When I was 18 years old, I wrote in my college yearbook, that I would like to have published a book by the time I was 25. Well,  I partly accomplished that goal. I finished writing the novel at the age of 25. It’s been four years and I still haven’t published but I am thankful that I have gotten this far and I will certainly work towards meeting that goal…even if that means self-publishing my work online.

I have sent out copies of the book to 3 different readers and I am both nervous and excited to get their feedback. After that, I’ll take everything they have to say into consideration and go from there.

This could very well be one of the most exciting times in my life.

What are your dreams? Have you made any accomplishments recently or not so recently? How did it feel? Let me know in the comments section below.
